A dedicated group of agriculture alumni celebrated 60 years of annual reunions over a luncheon in Albert Park. They call themselves ‘the Dookie 56ers’, having mostly graduated from Dookie Agricultural College in February 1956. Their original group consisted of around 40 fresh- faced students – whose boozy, exuberant, early yearly meetings required frequent venue changes. Now, their quiet annual luncheons are for no more than a dozen or so faithful survivors. These survivors mostly travel each year to Melbourne from suburban and country Victoria – and some from as far as New South Wales, Queensland or Tasmania.
