On Monday 3 June, around 160 alumni, academics, clients and industry partners gathered to celebrate the opening of the new Melbourne Veterinary School Learning and Teaching building and extension to U-Vet Werribee Animal Hospital.
Victorian Treasurer and Member for Werribee Tim Pallas officially opened the building alongside University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Professor Duncan Maskell. Guests were welcomed by Wurundjeri Elder Ron Jones in a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country. Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences Professor John Fazakerley officiated the proceedings, which included a speech from the Head of Melbourne Veterinary School Professor Anna Meredith OBE on buildings’ importance for future veterinary students and a portrait unveiling of the former Dean Professor Ken Hinchcliff completed by Archibald Prize winning artist Yvette Coppersmith. Attendees were able to tour the new world class teaching and animal treatment facilities, which will be home to our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students.
